Jama Pryor brings more than 30 years of healthcare brand, marketing and communications experience to Pryor Communications LLC.

Jama spent 12 years at Indiana University Health, serving in marketing and philanthropy communication roles. She recruited Dr. Aaron Carroll, now a celebrated health columnist with the New York Times, to launch “Advances in Transplantation,” a podcast on ReachMD, notable for its popularity among physicians.

While at IU Health, Jama’s team was recognized with an Indianapolis Gold ADDY Award for the microsite Race to Recovery, telling the story of IndyCar racer James Hinchcliffe’s recovery from a near fatal accident. Jama led the storytelling, including interviews with Hinchcliffe and the IU Health care team members, which garnered national press and contributed to a successful fundraising campaign.

In 2018, Jama was recruited to help launch the hospital system’s first statewide foundation brand following the merging of 14 separate foundations and gift programs to become IU Health Foundation. Jama led the philanthropy communications team, managing strategic communications, editorial strategy, digital engagement and PR. Her team increased YOY social media engagement across platforms by 26% organically, averaged monthly newsletter open rates of 40% (donor audience) and 69% (leader audience) and averaged 10 positive monthly media hits.

Jama led the campaign communications strategy for the health system’s first comprehensive capital campaign, resulting in segmented public announcements and enhanced collaboration with system and regional teams, enabling a $3M gift by way of a new personalized donor website.
